Woman drinks pesticide over husband’s adultery


MARONDERA: Two women committed suicide recently over their husbands’ adultery, police in Mashonaland East province have confirmed and are carrying out investigations into the deaths. Miriam Madyirapo, 36, from Wilshire in Chivhu, died recently after discovering that her husband, Happiness Rangarirai, 43, was involved in several extra-marital affairs.
According to the police, Madyirapo confronted her husband over the issue and a heated argument ensued between the two. Rangarirai then assaulted his wife and she later left the family homestead in a huff to the garden where she drank two bottles of pesticide.
Efforts to locate her on that day failed and Madyirapo’s body was only discovered the following morning lying on her father’s grave.
A report was made at Masasa police station and two pesticide bottles were recovered from the garden.
However, police investigations are still underway.
In a separate incident, police in Mashonaland East have also confirmed the recent death of Abigail Rupiya, 31, who died in Mahusekwa following an argument with her husband, Mathew Sikera, over his infidelity.
On that same day, Sikera left his wife for Harare where he is employed.
However, the next day, Rupiya drank some pesticide and was only discovered later lying unconscious by other villagers who rushed her to Mahusekwa hospital, but she was pronounced dead on arrival.
A report was made at Mahusekwa police station and investigations are also underway.
