A 39-YEAR-OLD woman, who was nabbed at the Harare International Airport while attempting to smuggle cocaine into the country from Brazil, has been slapped with a five-year jail term.
Fungisai Maguta was arrested after she was found with 274 grams of cocaine stashed in her privates.
She will however, serve four years effective after magistrate Lazini Ncube set aside one year on condition that she does not commit a similar offence in five years.
Judge Ncube that what was aggravating in Maguta’s case is that she flew all the way to Brazil for the drug.
“This shows that you are a drug trafficker. Cocaine is a dangerous drug which damages brain and it is disturbing that your targeted market is young people,” he said.
Court heard that Maguta on February 3 at around 10am, detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics received information to the effect that there was a woman in possession of cocaine aboard a United Arab Emirates flight from Brazil.
The detectives made investigations and discovered that Fungisai was passenger suspected to be in possession of the drug.
Upon arrival at the Harare International Airport at around 4pm, detectives intercepted her as she walked towards the exit point.
Court heard that the detectives searched her luggage and found nothing among her parcels.
A further search led detectives to take her to the toilet where they asked her to undress and made a body search.
She was found with a sachet containing cocaine which was stashed in her privates leading to her arrest.
