Schools have just reopened in Zimbabwe and that means it is once again that time of the year when we hear a lot of stories from the government about why books and textbooks have not been delivered to schools on time.
In Midlands, the provincial department of education had said stationery would be delivered to all schools by the end of January after some delays in its systems. But that did not happen. This is actually a problem faced by all the provinces in our country, year after year.
Parents eventually have to use their own money to buy kids books and textbooks.
Addressing the issue, Minister of Education told journalists on Friday afternoon that the department is working around the clock to solve the problem. But in the meantime, ‘School kids without books to write on, must memorize lessons’, Minister Dokora said.
