CHIREDZI – A Chiredzi woman who made two maintenance claims for one child with two different men, one after the other, has sent tongues wagging after paternity tests proved that neither of the men was the father.
Berita Temba was left speechless at Chiredzi Civil Court last week when Magistrate Tafadzwa Mhlanga announced that Wellington Chinoda, a farmer in Hippo Valley who paid $50 monthly maintenance for the upkeep of a two-year child was not the biological father.
The Mirror is reliably informed that Temba once claimed maintenance from a prominent Chiredzi businessman Tinos Nangatira in 2015. Nangatira demanded paternity tests which again tested negative and proved that the businessman was not the biological father of the child.
It was after losing that paternity test that Temba made maintenance claims against Chinoda in February this year. Chinoda demanded for paternity tests but the court granted an interim order in which he was to pay $50 monthly maintenance until the results were out.
Efforts to get a comment from Temba were fruitless. Chinoda confirmed the story but refused to give further details. Nangatira also confirmed that he paid maintenance for the upkeep of Temba’s child which stopped in 2015 after a paternity test.
He also however, declined to discuss the matter further.
“An incompatibility with paternity was found at more than 2 markers. Paternity of Wellington Chinoda is excluded with a high degree of certainty” reads part of the paternity report signed by Dr MP Marx and Dr Jean Emmanuel at Unistel Medical Laboratories where the tests were carried out.
