A MAN from Lower Gweru who allegedly killed a man over a donkey with the help of his brothers and an accomplice was arrested this week following a tip off by members of the public.
Midlands provincial spokesperson, Inspector Joel Goko, confirmed the arrest of Daniel Mpofu, 32, and said he would appear in court soon to answer to murder charges.
Mpofu was on the run for two months since the four men allegedly murdered Last Khabo in October this year following a dispute over a donkey.
Mpofu’s brothers, Munyaradzi, 27 and Samuel, 18, together with Fanuel Ncube, 30 appeared before magistrate Tayengwa Chibanda last week facing murder charges.
Munyaradzi, Samuel and Ncube were remanded in custody to December 15.
Prosecutors told the court that on October 25 this year the four men approached Khabo at his plot and quizzed him over Mpofu’s donkey.
They started assaulting him with axe handles and logs all over the body until he was unconscious.
“They dragged him for about 3km, further assaulting him before dumping his body,” prosecutors said.
The gang was however, seen by Brian Ncube and his friends committing the offence and the latter went to make a police report leading to Munyaradzi, Samuel and Ncube’s arrest.
Mpofu, who had been on the run, was arrested this Tuesday following a tip off.
