A 33 year old Harare man from Budiriro was on Tuesday dragged before the Magistrates courts for allegedly setting up his family home on fire with the wife and children inside.
Never Balami was charged with attempted murder and was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate, Tendai Mahwe.
He will appear again in court on May 19.
Prosecutors said on May 1 Balami was at home with his wife and two children. The wife and the children’s names were withheld.
It is the state’s case that Balami approached his wife, whom she asked for five rand.
The wife however told him that she had no money and this angered her husband who started scolding her, shouting at the top of his voice.
It is further alleged that Balami also became violent before he went outside of the cabin, which was their home.
Balami allegedly locked the door from outside and went on to tie it with a wire.
He then set the cabin on fire and went away leaving his wife and two children screaming for help.
Neighbours heard the cries and rushed to the wife and children’s rescue.
The matter was later reported leading to the arrest of Balami.
