A 26 YEAR-OLD Chirumanzu woman has been arraigned before the courts in Gweru on charges of killing her one-year-old son to lessen the burden of single-handedly looking after her children.
Precious Hamandishe of Mamombe Village under headman Chisvesve allegedly took her infant son to a bushy area close to her home where she strangled the boy using tree bast fibre before hiding the body.
Hamandishe was remanded to the 9th of March on murder charges when she appeared in court Wednesday.
Prosecutors claim that, on the 7th of January this year, Hamandishe took her son to the bush where she placed him on a big rock.
She proceeded to take bast fibre from a Musasa tree which she used to strangle the toddler.
After the murder, Hamandishe concealed the body with leaves and left for her homestead.
When neighbours asked about the whereabouts of her son, she reportedly lied that the boy had been taken by his relatives.
But a week later, the body the kid was found by a villager who made a report to the police leading to the arrest of Hamandishe.
