A GWERU man who attempted to avoid traffic cops by speeding off with an officer clinging to the bonnet of his car for six kilometres has appeared before the courts facing attempted murder charges.
Nyashadzashe Musipa was asked to stop at a roadblock by Jeffrey Nyambawaro, a police officer based at Senga.
On Tuesday, Musipa appeared before regional magistrate Morgan Nemadire but pleaded not guilty to the charge.
His trial continues this Wednesday.
The state’s case is that on the 27th June 2014 Nyambawaro was at a roadblock with four other police officers at the roundabout along Shurugwi road.
At around 2.30 pm, Musipa approached the roadblock and was asked to stop by the Nyambawaro.
Musipa however did not stop and Nyambawaro clung to the bonnet of his car and he (Musipa) drove at high speed for about 6km.
An ambulance driver who was stopped at the roadblock picked one Constable Muzhongo and they gave chase and caught up with Musipa at the Fletcher High school turn off along the Gweru- Shurugwi road.
Musipa was arrested after being stopped and taken to the Gweru central police.
