ZANU PF power struggles were in focus again at the weekend after police sources said MP for Gokwe-Nembudziya Justice Mayor Wadyajena’s life is in danger as he is being tracked for a possible attack.
Police sources told Newzimbabwe.com that the assassination plot was revealed by Madyajena’s driver Richard Manlan’u who is facing charges of stealing $40 000 from his boss’s car.
Manlan’u allegedly revealed to the police that the MP’s vehicles were being tracked and that the theft of Wadyajena’s money was part of a plot to destroy his business for being vocal and too close to vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The source, who refused to be named for professional reasons, said Manlan’u-who ironically was seconded to Wadyajena from Mnangagwa’s office-made these allegations during interrogations.
“Richard told us that Wadyajena’s vehicles are being tracked and a real possibility for his elimination is there as some within the party feel that he is talking too much and being used to attack others unnecessarily,” added the source.
On Saturday, according to the source, Manlan’u repeated the same statements before the MP and his young brother, Delight, when he took the detectives to the crime scene for indications on how he stole the $40 000 which was stashed in the MP’s car.
“He made it clear in front of Wadyajena and his brother that the MP’s life is not safe at all. He warned him that some people out there are not happy with the way he attacks senior party members with impunity and at times abusing the relationship he enjoys with ED (Emmerson Mnangagwa),” the source said.
Police said they believed that Manlan’u stole the money under the belief that he would easily get away with the crime all because of the alleged plot to eliminate Wadyajena.
Wadyajena is not new to controversy as only last year he claimed that Saviour Kasukuwere had threatened to deal with him politically and economically.
Last year Wadyajena, who chairs the parliamentary committee on indigenisation and youths, clashed with Kasukuwere when he was probing the distribution of funds following revelations of plunder and looting of the public money by the minister’s cronies.
According to Wadyajena then, Kasukuwere made the threats in parliament after evidence was made available to the committee that the minister, when he was responsible for the indigenisation portfolio, had misused funds.
The talkative Wadyajena is one of the Zanu PF politicians who led the campaign against former VP Joice Mujuru and ensured she was removed from office on allegations of corruption and plotting to kill President Robert Mugabe.
Kasukuwere is also a close ally of Mnangagwa and has made it clear that he values the relationship he enjoys with the feared VP and may not take kindly to any efforts to scuttle the bond.
Allegations against Mamlan are that after he dropped Wadyajena at the Harare International Airport for a business trip to South Africa he parked his boss’s car in the basement at Fidelity Life Tower as per instruction.
However Manlan’u later returned and broke into the car and stole $40 000 cash, a mobile phone — an iPhone 5s and office keys.
Manlan’u is said to have later reported to the police that Wadyajena’s vehicle had been broken into but made inconsistent statements.
